KUCHING: Two new clusters — the Putai cluster and the Rayang cluster — were declared by the State Health Department on Sunday (Apr 25).

The Putai cluster in Bukit Mabong, Ulu Baleh, is at a hydroelectric dam construction site.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the index case is a 39-year-old local woman who was detected Covid-19 positive.

“She was tested before going back to work after taking vacationing in Kapit district. The index case was found positive for Covid-19 on April 18,” it said.

Further investigations were conducted on the staff and workers at the construction site.

“Of the 358 individuals who were tested, 243 cases including the index case were positive while 115 were negative,” added SDMC.

It said 17 cases were sent to a quarantine centre in Kapit while 226 cases were isolated and confined at a quarantine centre which was opened at the construction site.

Meanwhile, the Rayang cluster is a community cluster detected at Kampung Rayang, Serian.

The index case is a 50-year-old local woman who was detected on April 6 and found to have close contact with a Covid-19 positive case.

“The index case is a teacher who works at the Serian Education Office. She tested positive for the virus on April 5,” said SDMC.

A targeted smearing activity was conducted on the village from April 20 until April 23.

“Of the 1,305 individuals who were tested, 50 cases including the index case were positive.

“Another 982 cases were negative after the first test while 273 people are still waiting for their test results,” said SDMC.

It said 40 positive cases were sent to a quarantine centre in Serian for isolation.

SDMC said of the 58 active clusters in the state, 18 clusters recorded 270 new positive cases while the other clusters did not record any new cases.
