SIBU: Two sites in Kuala Rajang in Central Sarawak have been identified for the expansion of microalgae farming in the state.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the project sites in Selalang and the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub will be developed as soon as possible and will bring great benefits to the local economy.

“In Selalang and Tanjung Manis Halal Hub, 100 hectares will be developed first and then increased to 2,000 hectares,” he told reporters after attending a dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) last night.

Microalgae is used for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Len Talif, who is also Belawai assemblyman, said PUSAKA will build 200 units of affordable homes under the Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) scheme at a cost of RM20 million to meet the housing needs in Tanjung Manis Industrial Zone, Tanjung Manis in Mukah Division.

He said the Sarawak State Planning Unit had approved the site for the housing project under the Tanjung Manis Resettlement Scheme (SPS).

According to him, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved the RM20 million allocation under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), while the housing programme concept is the same as that implemented in SPS Darul Hana, Kuching and SPS Kemuyang, Sibu.

“I am confident that this project can be implemented soon. The government will build infrastructure facilities such as roads, drainage systems, electricity and water supply in line with Sarawak’s housing policy,” he added. – BERNAMA
