Two years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft

SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a man to two years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.

Shayrul, from Kampung Nangka pleaded guilty to two charges before magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar, who ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

The accused was charged with breaking into a house in Jalan Lucky, an offence under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years.

The second charge against him stated that he committed theft at the house, stealing a bag containing RM6,000 and other personal documents, including bank account book and ATM cards. This Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and liable to fine, upon conviction.

The incident occurred at about 7.20pm on June 13.

The court was told that a CCTV recording from the house owner showed the accused committing the acts. The accused was arrested less than 24 hours after a report was made by the house owner.
