KUCHING: Members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women and Youth wings are urged to strengthen their unity in the party, remain loyal and serve with dedication and integrity.

“The Women’s Wing, under the leadership of Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, has shown unwavering commitment in any situation, especially during elections.

“Loyalty and commitment are important for PBB. Therefore, continue to be united and strong in developing the Women’s Wing and continue the efforts to attract more women to get involved in mainstream politics,” said PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah, who is also the Deputy Premier, said this at the joint opening of the PBB Youth and Women wings triennial delegates convention (TDC) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here on Friday (June 17).

On PBB Youth, he said they were the frontliners expected to look after and preserve the party.

“The Youth Wing has always been at the forefront of all our struggles since the establishment of PBB.

“With that, I would like to express our appreciation to Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu for successfully leading PBB Youth.”

On another note, he said the party also had to be prepared to explain government policies and programmes to the public.

“We need the Women and Youth wings to assist, we also need you to be our eyes and ears, and give us feedback, especially on implementation of projects.”

Uggah also pointed out the importance of social media to reach out to voters.

“We have seen the fall of Barisan Nasional because of social media. And we have noticed around the world, presidents have won and lost because of social media.

“Therefore, I hope all of us are using the latest technology, use your knowledge to explain PBB policies and what we have done on social media.”

The Bukit Saban assemblyman said baseless accusations were still prevalent on social media, “hence it is the party’s duty to counter what is not true.”

“Therefore, I appeal to you to make use of social media, this is so that we can make sure that all fake news can be refuted and clarified,” he added.
