UNIMAS welcomes visiting VIPs

SAMARAHAN: Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia Raden Sigit Witjaksono visited Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on Monday (April 11).

Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suadi said it was the university’s first meeting with Raden since his appointment in February.

“We are indeed proud to receive His Excellency and delegation which included Ibu Fitri Tjandra Prijanti (Konsul Ekonomi) and Bapak Alexandri Legawa (Staf Ekonomi).

“We discussed bilateral relations on higher education between UNIMAS and Indonesian universities,” he said yesterday (April 12).

He pointed out that UNIMAS currently hosted a big number of Indonesian students and lecturing staff in various faculties.

“We certainly hope to further increase collaboration in view of the expected increase in demands of activities related to higher education due to the establishment of the new capital of Republic of Indonesia, Nusantara near Balikpapan,” he said.

On a separate occasion, UNIMAS also welcomed Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Syarif Laksamana Perlis Dato’ Seri DiRaja Syed Razlan Syed Putra Jamalullail.

The chairman of the board of directors for Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) visited UNIMAS board of directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie.

“An experienced and renowned figure in Malaysia, he is an alumnus of the Agriculture College, the precursor institution 50 years before the inception of the present day UPM.

“I had the opportunity to share the progress and development of UNIMAS as well as invite UPM to collaborate in various fields of research, especially in agrotechnology,” Kadim said.

Present during the visit were deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation Professor Dr Nazamid Saari, deputy Vice Chancellor of Industry and Community Relations Professor Dr BT Hang Tuah Baharudin and director of UPM Bintulu campus Professor Dr Shahrul Razid Sharbini.
