SIBU: The University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Guangdong AIB Polytechnic (GDAIB) today to further expand their collaboration in the e-commerce educational field.

According to UTS vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid, the purpose of the MoA is to jointly set up the Chinese + Cross Border E-Commerce Study Centre to train teachers and students on cross-border e-commerce vocational skills.

“Rather than sending out our students to China every year, we want to set up a study centre here in collaboration with GDAIB so that teachers (from GDAIB) can come and provide training here,” he said when met by reporters after the MoA signing ceremony at the university today.

Khiruddin also said that through the study centre, the university not only can provide training for their staff and students but also for the public, which includes the private sector and government agencies to further expand the collaboration.

He stressed that as GDAIB specialises in vocational and hands-on approach and not just theoretical, it will provide an advantage to UTS.

“We (UTS) will complement (our students) with our own academic content together with their practical experience, so that our students can have the experience to do not just local business but also international business,” he said.

Khairuddin said the collaboration will add an extra advantage to UTS, where students will have the opportunity to undergo their internship in a foreign company through the partnership.

“Our students can intern with the private sector in China through our partner. This is a good approach as students will have good exposure by interning at international companies,” he said.

Also present was GDAIB vice president of Professor Luo Nanlin.
