KUCHING: The Special Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Malaysian Islamic Affairs has made its religious position that the Covid-19 vaccine is permissible for Muslim use, said Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

“Based on discussion by Special Muzakarah at the federal level, the use of Covid-19 vaccine for Muslims is a must (harus),” he told New Sarawak Tribune when asked on the latest development on the much-anticipated Covid-19 vaccine halal status.

He said so far, the ingredients for developing Covid-19 vaccine were not ‘haram’.

“The vaccines are processed from permissible and halal sources,” he said.

However, Abdul Rahman indicated that the halal status was only for those vaccines that have been indicated by the Muzakarah Committee.

He also informed that the Sarawak Fatwa Board will endorse the decision at its next meeting.
