SIBU: Passengers of a van had an anxious moment yesterday when they were involved in an accident at Salim/Stabau Road.

The rental van that was ferrying nine passengers had crashed into a lorry that was parked by the side of the road.

According to the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a call on the incident was received at 6.30am and seven firefighters from Sibu Bomba, led by PBK II Norman Matu were deployed to the scene.

However, when Bomba arrived, the lorry was not in sight.

Fire-fighters used rescue tools to remove a trapped passenger in the front seat of the van and the victim managed to escape with only minor injuries.

All victims were sent to Sibu Hospital by two ambulances and one EMRS.
