Various activities held during Ubek Fest

BELAGA: Various activities were held during the recent Pesta Ubek or Ubek Fest 2017 celebration organised by Peng Doh Association (Women’s Group) at Uma Belor Leo Dian, Sg Asap, Belaga here.

They included cultural performances by the Orang Ulu, ngajat dance, the elderly beauty contest, arm wrestling and women beads weaving competition.

It was launched by a political secretary to the Chief Minister Michael Mujah who represented Murum Assemblyman Kennedy Chuk Pai.

In his launching speech, Michael said cooperation between the members of the association was important because it could contribute to the success of the association.

He said he was very happy and thanked the association for having very close cooperation among each other to the extent of managing to create the world’s longest mat recently.

The challenges and responsibilities of women are now increasingly heavier because they are also contributing to the development of the State such as helping their families in terms of ensuring their children to succeed in their education, Michael pointed out.

“They are also helping to educate the present generation either in the family, at workplace, within the neighbourhood and the entire local community. This means they urgently need the full cooperation of all parties so that the women can be said to really contribute to the development of the country.

“Therefore, we in Sg.Asap / Koyan Belaga are eagerly hoping to continue doing our best in giving them (women) our full support and cooperation for the sake of future success and excellence,” he pointed out.

Michael informed that the Association’s establishment was the idea and suggestion by former Belaga assemblyman, Dato Sri Tajang Laing and chaired by Datin Sri Devong Anye at that time.

It is also an annual festival and to be held as a form of thanksgiving and appreciation to God’s blessing of their yield from their farming activities, especially the paddy cultivation.

Also present were Dato Sri Tajang Laing and his wife Datin Sri Devong Anye, Chairman of the Peng Doh Association Sg.Asap Belaga Lohong Tajang, Administrative Officer Hollis Timbang, Penghulu Saging Bit, Ding Ajeng, Batang Langat, Edok Maring and Councillor Tirah Lawai.
