The state government has undertaken various efforts to curb the issue of online gambling.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan stated that among them are planning and intervention by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to block online gambling websites to eradicate the illegal activity.

“In addition to this, there are public awareness talks on the effects of online gambling addiction being actively conducted. Members of the public can also channel any information about online gambling activities to the nearest police station or via the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters hotline at 013-5253052,” he said.

He said this in response to a question from Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad on the state government’s efforts to curb online gambling in rural areas.

Snowdan said PDRM also detect and arrest any party involved in online gambling activities.

“At the same time, the PDRM in cooperation with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) will take action to cut off the electricity supply of any premises involved in illegal gambling,” he added.
