KUCHING: The Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) to be built in Sungai Maong-Segedup is expected to benefit approximately 300 families from the Satok constituency.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the effort was to accommodate the increase in population and provide housing for second generation families, especially from the B40 group in the area.

According to Ibrahim, the details regarding the development plan will be announced after the visit of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to the site which is expected on February 22.

“We have identified a site for the construction of SPK which is between Sungai Maong and Segedup.

“This village expansion project will also involve about 300 families from the Satok area in particular,” he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of Mutiara Mortgage and Credit special financial assistance briefing at Dewan SK Rakyat Jalan Haji Bolhassan, here today (Feb 12).

Previously, during the State Legislative Assembly sitting last year, Ibrahim had also requested that the implemention of the project be expedited for the benefit of the people under his constituency.

On the programme, he said it is a good initiative to convey information and explain to the grassroots level about the Sarawak government’s initiative.

He explained that the people may be aware of the various initiatives but lack understanding on application procedures and many others.

“For example, the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) which has been rolled out for the ninth time and also on basic matters such as education, endowment, maternity, housing loan and others.

“So, all these things, the people should know and take advantage of them. Hence that’s why we organise the programme,” he added.

Noting that the number of attendees for the programme was very encouraging, Ibrahim then called on the grassroots leaders, community leaders and various stakeholders to continue working with one another in highlighting the government’s initiative to the people in Satok constituency.

Also present were political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Abdul Samat Gany, political secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok branch deputy chief Hilmy Othman and Mutiara Mortgage chief executive officer Shaharony Mat Nor.
