KUCHING: The Social Welfare Department (JKM) is prepared to send water to any areas affected by the current hot and dry weather.

Sarawak Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah stressed that JKM are prepared to send as many mineral water bottles as needed to areas that depend only on rain water, or areas that did not have tap water supply.

“This assistance is specifically for rural areas, especially now that it’s the dry season, and residents in these areas are hardly able to get clean water for drinking and cooking.”

Fatimah said this when met by the media after the Sejamak Kasih Aidilfitri programme at Majma Mall here on Monday (April 17).

“I would like to urge the community leaders in the areas affected to report to the state disaster management committee (SDMC) in your districts.

“This is to ensure coordination can be done, including transportation to send water.”

In the meantime, SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that they would meet soon to discuss issues regarding the current dry season.
