KOTA SAMARAHAN: A new high-level water tank has been proposed on a six-acre plot of land in Kampung Hijrah, Simunjan, to provide uninterrupted supply for Simunjan residents.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said Simunjan assemblyman Awla Idris proposed the initiative several months back.

He added that the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and the Land and Survey Department (JTS) would meet to discuss the matter.

“I will convey this to (Minister for Utility and Telecommunication) Datuk Julaihi Narawi to inform Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on the need for the tank,” he told the media here on Tuesday (Oct 25).

He explained that the proposed tank was needed to supplement the ageing Simunjan Water Treatment Plant and to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Simunjan District, which population is on the rise.

He added that once completed, the tank would only take up around one acre of the identified property and would be able to hold reserves lasting three days.

“This means that even if the water supply is disrupted for three days, Simunjan will not be impacted. That is why we need this high-level tank.”
