KUCHING: Eight water treatment plants in Sri Aman Division are operating minimally due to the current drought.

These plants are at Air Bayai, Pantu, Melugu, Stumbin, Seduku, Lingga, Lemanak Development Scheme and Engkilili.

The Sri Aman Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), therefore, continues to open its centralised water collection centres in front of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sri Aman, state government flats at Jalan Kedang in front of Sri Aman Prisons, Kampung Pakit and Pasar Lachau in Pantu.

To increase efficiency and make it easier for consumers to get treated water, the department also plans to add water collection centres in Lingga, Stumbin/Seduku and Pantu.

Water delivery (by tankers) to severely affected areas is also carried out daily until midnight.

This was yesterday’s water level in Sungai Marup from where Engkilili treatment plant gets its raw water.

As of yesterday, Sungai Marup where Engkilili water treatment plant is located was critically low. Therefore, water is rationed twice daily from 8am to 10am and 3pm to 5pm until conditions returned to normal.
