SERIAN: Tragedy struck along KM63, Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman this morning, resulting in the untimely death of a pillion rider after her motorcycle was rear-ended by a car.
The fatal accident happened around 6.45 am when both vehicles were heading in the same direction.
Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the 58-year-old victim sustained a broken neck and arms and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Serian Hospital.
“Her body was taken to Serian Hospital for a post-mortem.
“Meanwhile, the rider of the ill-fated motorcycle was the victim’s husband, a 72-year-old, who sustained injuries to his head and a broken left arm.
“He is undergoing treatment at the Serian Hospital,” Aswandy said.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the husband is believed to have made a lane change shortly before the collision.
Due to the close proximity, the 31-year-old driver of the car could not evade the motorcycle, resulting in a rear-end collision.
The driver did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
Aswandy said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
