Woman killed in two-vehicle crash

SARIKEI: A woman passenger died on the spot following a two-vehicle collision near SMK Sungai Paoh last night (Oct 15).

The accident involving a lorry and a pick-up truck, happened around 11.35pm.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Sarikei station were deployed to the scene, some 15km away, after receiving an alert from the police.

On arrival, the team confirmed the accident and found an unconscious woman pinned in the front seat of the pick-up truck.

Extrication works were promptly carried out to free the victim. However, once freed, paramedics confirmed that the woman had died at the scene.

Her body was later taken to Sarikei Hospital for further action.

Meanwhile, the pick-up truck’s driver and three other passengers managed to escape the collision with injuries.

Their identities and the extent of their injuries were not known.

In addition, the lorry driver and his attendant were unharmed in the accident.

Before concluding the operation at 12.43am, the team conducted flushing works to clear the road from oil spill and debris.
