KUCHING: Federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has expressed his serious concern about the issue of potholes and infrastructure-related problems.

While acknowledging that this is not a new problem in the country, he emphasised that it is frequently brought to the attention of the ministry.

“Despite some perceiving potholes as a minor issue, I do not take it lightly because the consequences can lead to accidents and fatalities. Matters involving lives cannot be taken lightly,” he said in a Facebook post recently.

In response to the issue, the ministry will launch a campaign that focuses on addressing potholes, damaged roads, and other related road furniture issues.

The campaign aims to raise awareness and understanding about road maintenance safety, encouraging the active involvement of all parties, including industry players, government agencies, the private sector and the public.

“I also want the campaign to be action-oriented, based on the concept of ‘actions speak louder than words’.”

While recognising the existence of similar campaigns in the past, he is committed to improving and enhancing the effectiveness of this campaign.

“Through this campaign, I also aim to strengthen the ‘No Wrong Door Policy’, which means that the public complaint system under the Ministry of Works’ jurisdiction will be improved.”

Nanta acknowledged the crucial role of public complaints in addressing infrastructure issues, ensuring that they are not overlooked and have significant influence.
