KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will shift to a yearly renewal system for dog licences to comply with the annual rabies vaccination protocol.
In stating this Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said if people cared about their pets they should have them vaccinated.
Under the existing system, everyone, as well as pet businesses and dog breeders, can obtain a three-year dog licence by paying the required fees.
He stressed the importance of this shift in policy after attending the Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination, Licensing, Microchipping and Subsidised Neutering for Dogs at MBKS Community Hall here on Saturday (Nov 11).
Wee said before implementing the policy change, MBKS would seek guidance from the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).
He urged the public to be prepared for the change which is expected to take place next year.
The event was also attended by MBKS deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili and SSPCA chief Datin Dona Wee.
