KUCHING: It was only after three meetings that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) finally declared its undivided support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to be the eighth Prime Minister.

This was revealed by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in an interview with Suara Sarawak today.

According to him, the meetings, chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, were intended to hear the state MPs’ views on the issue.

“A resolution was made that all GPS MPs would vote en-bloc and support Muhyiddin as Prime Minister because Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is seen as having no solid stand.

“We also gave this decision to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah,” he said.

Commenting on a motion of no-confidence brought against Muhyiddin in Parliament recently, he said it started with a political game from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“It is time for Malaysians to reject the political game and let the Perikatan Nasional (PN) rule the government.

“Our main focus right now is to address the Covid-19 pandemic as quickly as possible … where we have also been recognised as the fourth best in the world and the first in Asean in dealing with Covid-19,” he added.

Earlier on May 8, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof accepted an application from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for a motion of no confidence to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat against Muhyiddin.

Further elaborating, Wan Junaidi, who is also Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said he it did not look like PH was able to lead the country because when Tun Mahathir announced the RM20 billion economic stimulus package “he did not address the people’s concerns”.

“However, the RM250 billion economic stimulus package announced by Muhyiddin was comprehensive, and he also added RM10 billion in the third phase to reduce the dropout rate.

“In addition, he (Muhyiddin) also did not touch on politics at every meeting he chaired. So, let him be prime minister until the end of the term and after that, let the people vote,” he stressed.

Wan Junaidi pointed out that the motion of no-confidence should not arise in Parliament as it does not exist in the Constitution and could actually mislead the people.
