PADAWAN: A youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman with learning disabilities in a house at Mile 19, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

The alleged incident occurred last Thursday (April 22) when a male relative of the victim—her cousin—saw her leaving his house in a hurry to go to her house next door around 9pm.

The cousin noticed an unknown person on a motorcycle in front of the 22-year-old victim’s house, to which both then entered together.

Sensing something amiss, the cousin went to investigate and he found all doors locked and the lights switched off.

He peeked through a window at the back of the house and saw both of them in a state of undress.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the suspect, 20, who works in a bistro, was picked up in Siburan last Saturday (April 24).

“Police also confiscated a phone, a long-sleeved shirt, a pair of shorts and a pair of underwear. He was taken to the police station for further action.

“Investigations found that the suspect was believed to have taken advantage of the victim because of her learning disabilities.”

The victim had been staying at her cousin’s house since last month as her father was getting treatment at Sarawak General Hospital and her mother was taking care of him.

DSP Lim said the victim was examined at SGH and doctors found that there were old tear marks on her hymen.

In addition, the victim admitted to having sex with the suspect, whom she knew, for about a year.

“The victim could be handed over to the Welfare Department after discussions with her family.”

The suspect, who admitted to having sexual relations with the victim, is now in the Siburan police station lock-up to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
