KUCHING: The youths are encouraged to be the main driving force in organising events as it can help educate them to be more responsible members of the community.

In stating this, state Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (JAKIM) director Hamdan Jar’ee believed that when given the opportunity, the youth will do their best to carry out their responsibilities.

“The youths have shown strong support for the follow-up programme that we have organised here for the fourth time, and I am confident that they are the programme’s main driving force.

“Getting young people involved in organising events will automatically increase their sense of responsibility,” he said at the opening ceremony of the Mahabbah Perpaduan Malaysia Madani programme at Surau Al-Amin, Kampung Gita Baru, here yesterday (June 10).

In light of the programme, he thanked all the agencies and committee members for their cooperation, which led to the success of the programme.

“This can’t be done without everyone’s cooperation. We will try to reach more people through various programmes by cooperating with agencies. InsyaAllah, Malaysia will continue to progress and stay united,” he added.

The said programme was organised with the cooperation of Tabung Haji, Kelab Hadrah, Pemuda Pemuda Gita Baru (PPGB), Kampung Gita Baru village development and security committees (JKKK), Icats University College, and the Surau Al-Amin committee.

It started as early as 7am and ended at 10pm. It was filled with activities such as aerobics, tug-of-war contests, colouring contests, a ketupat weaving contest, a glutinous rice making contest, and many others.
