KUCHING: The youth will vote for the good of Malaysia and this includes rejecting political parties whose leaders are proven to be involved in grand corruption and abuse of power.

Democratic Action Party Youth (Dapsy) chief Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen said this in response to a statement by UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil, who said that the youth will support Barisan Nasional (BN) because they do not like liars or party hoppers.

“I would like to remind him and UMNO/BN to maybe look in the mirror, as it is themselves who are the cause for many of the systemic and institutional problems in our country.

“On top of that, they empower and endorse hoppers into position of power following the Sheraton move,” Yii said.

He also added that UMNO/BN has constantly harped on unfulfilled promises in 22 months when they themselves have broken and failed in so many of their promises over the past 60 years.

“When in fact, even in 22 months, Pakatan Harapan put in place many institutional reforms and good governance policy which was recognised internationally including massive improvement in our “Corruption Perception Index, “Freedom of Media Index, “Democratic Index” and many more,” he added.

Yii added that would have set the foundation for a stronger and cleaner Malaysia which is important to attract investments and induce investors’ confidence in the country.

“Imagine if we were given a full five years, how much more could have been done to correct mismanagement caused by BN and set our country in the right direction.

“At the end of the day, youth are looking for good policies to give them economic and environmental security, equitable education, and more importantly policies to prepare them for jobs of the future,” he said.
