SEBUYAU: Despite the current state of oil prices, Petronas can still meet the demands made by the state in several alternative ways, said Assistant Minister for Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Datuk Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi after presenting tithes (zakat) to 100 members of the National Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) for Simunjan area at Dewan Pembangunan Sebuyau here on Friday.

He also called on Petronas to be swift in their actions as well as serious in regards to negotiations of the state’s request for an increase in oil royalty.

“To generate more downstream activities, the state should also be given a reasonable amount of quota in the oil and gas industry.

“There should be a win-win situation for all,” said Julaihi, who is also Assistant Minister for Rural Economy (Coastal Areas) and Fisheries.

Julaihi’s comment was also in reference to a statement made by state Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman, Abdullah Saidol who urged Petronas to treat the ongoing negotiations on oil royalty between the state government and Petronas with respect.
