12 youths slapped with RM48,000 compounds

SIBU: Twelve youths were slapped with compounds totalling RM48,000 after police caught them gathering without reasonable excuse by a roadside at Jalan Punai here.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said a standard operating procedure () compliance monitoring team detained the suspects around 8pm Thursday.

The youths, aged between 15 and 21 years, were each issued a RM4,000 compound for violating the movement control order (MCO).

“They had committed SOP violation for gathering in public and failing to provide any reasonable excuse for their action.

“The compounds were issued under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) (No.3) 2021,” he said.

The suspects were given 14 days to settle the compounds at Sibu health office.

Apart from that, police also issued 33 summonses against eight motorcycle owners who are among the 12 youths, for various traffic offences.

Their motorcycles were confiscated under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
