14 teams in the mix at Saratok Regatta 2022

“JUH LAH BERAMBEH”... Come on, don't forget to make an appointment to enliven the Saratok Festival 2022 with the main filling of the boat racing event starting this Friday to Sunday.

SARATOK: Fourteen teams will be vying for honours – and a share of the total prizemoney of RM97,000 – at the Saratok Regatta 2022 this weekend.

The winner of the main title, Raja Sungai Krian, will take home a whopping RM15,000 at the event which is making a comeback after a two-year Covid-19 enforced lull.

Organising deputy chairman Wan Ismail Abg Zamhari said that the regatta is the main event of the Saratok Festival which takes place from Friday to Sunday.

He said as many as 50 boats powered by local and foreign teams will be moving up the Krian River for the race.

“Among them are MRT Gedong, Sri Berjaya, Raja Burong Lang Ganas, GP Binladen, Mahkota Dewa Gedong, Sinaran, Yayasan Sarawak, PBB Seri Sarawak, Udak KP, Jaminas Jaya, Melba Pirates, Khazanah, Burung Garuda and Cahaya Helang Tasik.

“I would like to remind all teams to maintain harmony in the race, God willing, we will make this Saratok Regatta 2022 a platform to strengthen friendships,” he said.

Wan Ismail added that this year, the racing event will be broadcast live via Facebook.

“This will be done through the official Facebook of Ali Biju and Saratok FM, in addition to providing a giant screen near the main stage.

“This is to enable those who cannot return or come to Saratok to follow the event live online.”

It is understood that the Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources cum Saratok Member of Parliament Datuk Ali Biju will give away the main prize of Raja Sungai Krian 2022.

In addition to events on the river, various other interesting activities have been organised for the festival, including a Battle of The Band, drumming competition with Seh Gendang Dayang Azura and Dayang Ariana, Ratu Cilik, Ratu Etnik, sales stalls and exhibitions and much more.

There will also be an appearance by popular singers such as Siti Nordiana, Maxwell Franklin Saran and Eisner Nala.

About 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the Saratok Festival.
