1,440 primary students in Satok receive insurance coverage

KUCHING: A total of 1,440 students from four primary schools in the Satok constituency benefited from the Student Personal Accident Insurance scheme.

The scheme, sponsored by Satok service centre in collaboration with Borneo Care, was introduced for the first time to enhance the education of the students in the constituency.

Its assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the existence of the scheme is aimed at increasing social responsibility towards the students of Satok constituency by addressing their diverse needs and providing comprehensive protection in the event of any accidents.

“The existence of the insurance scheme is based on our concern and social responsibility towards students in Satok area, and this includes preschool students.

“The coverage provided by this scheme is comprehensive, as the insurance will cover accidents that occur not only within the schools ground but also outside schools and even abroad.

“This insurance is not limited to a specific group; in fact, everyone will receive benefits as long as they are within the Satok constituency,” he said.

Ibrahim said this at the handover ceremony held at Raia Hotel here, today.

The ceremony was attended by students along with their parents and respective guardians from four schools namely SK Merpati Jepang, SK Combined, SK Rakyat Jalan Haji Bolhassan and SJK Chung Hua No 4.

According to Ibrahim, the scheme was established following the suggestion put forth by the education bureau of Satok service centre and discussions with parents and guardians after observing an increasing number of child accidents.

He stressed that this effort is among the support provided by the education bureau to enhance the quality of children’s education.

Touching on education, Ibrahim said the education bureau had conducted various education based programme for the constituency through collaboration with schools.

“As the elected representative, I will give my utmost cooperation in terms of education as it holds a special place in our heart.

“We need to further enhance the education of our children so that they can succeed in their lives and contribute to the human capital in order for us to move towards a progressive state,” he added.

Also present were Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok branch deputy chief Hilmy Othman, political secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Irwan Zulkarnain and political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Abdul Samat Gany, founder and managing director of Borneo General Agency Services Alvin Siaand SK Combined headmistress Glenda Boniface.
