15th edition of Unimas film festival a success

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA) has successfully organised the 15th Mini Film Festival (MFF) to celebrate the work of filmmakers from throughout Southeast Asia.

Around 300 people attended the festival that saw the presentation of 23 film awards.

The ceremony was conducted by singer and actor Anding Indrawani of Akademi Fantasia 2.

Arjanmar Rebeta (Philippines) with his film titled “A Country in Moving Pictures” won the Best Film for the Southeast Asia category while in the Malaysia category, the Best Film went to Jun Yap with the film titled “Block A-2-15”.

SMK Tok Janggut, Kelantan student Muhammad Alif Ikhwan Mohamad Nawi won the Best Film in the Malaysian schools’ category while in the Malaysian universities, the award went to Sunway University’s Fahmi Sani with “Jo: A Love Story”.

Mini Film Festival director Mohd Affendi Azizan said they were delighted to be given the chance to host the event.

“There were various challenges but with the support of everyone, the event was a success. We hope we would be able to provide a bigger stage for the event, which is a good platform for students to brush up on their skills in hosting such events next year,” he added.
