18 new cases in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 18 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the tally to 960.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 15 cases were reported in Kuching, two in Miri and one in Kota Samarahan.

Two of the cases in Kuching had close contacts with the Baki Cluster. Case 943 is a woman in Kampung Haji Baki. She had her second test on Wednesday (Nov 4) and was found positive the next day.

Case 946 is a trader staying in Kampung Haji Baki who had his second test on Wednesday and was found positive the next day.

Both cases which did not show any sign and symptom of the disease were first screened on Oct 25 and test negative. They are treated at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The third case, Case 950, was had contact with the Greenhill Cluster. He is a local student who was screened on Wednesday at a private hospital after close contact with Case 824.

The case which did not show any sign and symptom, tested positive on the same day; admitted to SGH and was categorised as local infection.

When he returned from the United Kingdom on Oct 5 he tested negative after three tests during his 14-day quarantine at a hotel.

Seven cases were detected to have close contacts with the Wisma Saberkas Cluster. Case 953 is a male civil servant working in Wisma Saberkas. He was found through active contact tracing on Nov 5 and was found positive on the same day.

As for Case 947, 948, 949, 951, 958 and 959 (five men and a woman) they were screened because they came into contact with Case 933 who tested positive.

Case 947, 948, 949 and 959 were screened at a government health clinic on Nov 4 while Case 951 was at a private hospital and Case 958 was screened at a private laboratory in Kuching on Nov 5.

All the cases did not show any sign and symptom of the disease, but were still admitted to the SGH.

SDMC added that Case 954 and Case 956 (both working in a supermarket) were screened on Nov 5 at a private hospital and were found positive on the same day.

Both cases, which did not travel in the past three months, were admitted to SGH. The cases are still under investigation and contact tracing is in full swing.

Two more cases, Case 955 and 957, had close contact with a family member (Case 942) who tested positive on Nov 5. Both were screened at a private hospital on Nov 5 and found positive on the same day. They were admitted to SGH. The cases are still under investigation and contact tracing is in full swing.

The 15th case (Case 960) in Kuching is a local woman who returned from Saudi Arabia on Nov 2 via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) entered Sarawak on Nov 3 and was quarantined in a hotel.

In Miri, two cases were detected after having contact with a positive case. Case 944 is a local man working for a law firm while Case 945 is a local businessman.

Their second screening was on Nov 4 after having close contact with two positive cases — Case 829 and Case 920. They were screened on Oct 28 and were found negative.

Although they did not travel anywhere in the past three months they were still admitted to Miri Hospital as they had contacts with the Greenhill Cluster.

In Kota Samarahan, a local man (Case 952) got screened at a private hospital following close contact with a family member who tested positive (Case 927).

The case was screened on Nov 5 and was found positive on the same day. He did not show any sign or symptom but was still admitted to SGH as he had contact with the Wisma Saberkas Cluster and he was infected by someone from another district.

SDMC said 18 cases had recovered and discharged from SGH, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 807 or 84.06 percent.

As of today, 134 individuals have received treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state — 105 in SGH, 25 in Miri Hospital, and two each in Bintulu Hospital and Sibu Hospital.

A total of 29 persons under investigation (PUI) cases have been reported while one is awaiting laboratory results. There are no cases being treated in any intensive care unit (ICU). The death toll in the state remains at 19 or 1.98 percent.
