25 picked up for alleged drug abuse in Petra Jaya

KUCHING: Narcotics police arrested 25 individuals for alleged involvement in drug activities during a week-long operation here recently.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the operation from Jan 30 to Feb 5, was carried out around Petra Jaya.

The locations were Semariang Temenggung Haji Gobil, Kampung Semariang Pinggir, Kampung Lintang, Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, RPR Phase 2 of Jalan Astana, Kampung Gersik, Kampung Pinang Jawa and Lorong Merdeka.

“The operation resulted in the arrests of 23 men and two women, aged between 20 and 66 years.

The drugs seized from the suspects in the week-long anti-narcotics operation.

“Also seized from the suspects are drugs believed to be syabu with a total weight of 6.80g,” he added.

On the breakdown of cases investigated, one will be under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, four under Section 12(2) of the same Act, and 20 under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Background checks found that 20 of the suspects had prior drug records.

Ahsmon urged the public who may have information on drug activities to lodge a police report at the nearest police station.
