KUCHING: Only 38 out of the 66 government buildings throughout Sarawak have obtained their fire certificates (FC).

“The rest are still under annual inspection. Government buildings that still do not have a FC and fail to meet the ‘good housekeeping’ procedures, will be issued a notice.

“We will advise them and withhold the FC first,” said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman.

“If they refuse to comply, we will take them to court. But usually, they will comply and be given time to correct their modifications,” he told the media after the Gawai Dayak fire safety campaign, which was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at Sarawak Bomba headquarters here on Monday (May 30).

On the fire incident at Wisma Bapa Malaysia last Thursday (May 19), Uggah pointed out that the cause was still being investigated by Bomba.

He added that Deputy State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki held a meeting on Monday to look into the incident.

Last Thursday, the server room on the third floor of Wisma Bapa Malaysia caught fire at around 7.10pm.

The fire was successfully extinguished by firefighters from Petra Jaya and Padungan stations.

No injuries or casualties were reported as all of the occupants evacuated the government building safely.
