KUCHING: Police have compounded 29 people in the state for attempting inter-district travel without a permit during the Hari Raya celebration.

Sarawak police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said the highest number of compounds (18) for the conditional movement control order (CMCO) violation were issued in Kota Samarahan.

“This was followed by seven in Mukah, two in Padawan, and one each in Bau and Saratok.

“To date, our personnel manning 51 roadblocks throughout the state have instructed the owners of 241 vehicles to go back to their homes. 140 were ordered to go back on May 23 while 101 on May 24,” he said when contacted today.

He added that those who were asked to go home and those compounded did not have permits to cross districts and had no valid reasons to do so.

On May 23, Aidi advised those planning inter-district travel to their villages during Hari Raya to cancel their intentions to do so.
