Firemen extinguish the blaze that destroyed three houses in Kampung Tabuan Dayak.

KUCHING: An evening inferno at Lorong 5, Kampung Tabuan Dayak here, rendered about 30 occupants homeless after the flames destroyed three houses on Saturday (May 7).

There were no reports of casualties in the 8.20pm incident. Firemen from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations were despatched to the scene to douse the blaze.

Upon arriving, they found that two double-storey houses and a single-storey house were up in flames.

Extinguishing works commenced immediately using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant and the blaze was brought under control at 10.50pm.

The inferno completely destroyed the first house while, the second house was 70 per cent damaged and the third was 40 per cent razed.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.

All of the residents did not suffer any injuries as they managed to save themselves from the blaze.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen in his Facebook posts, said the victims are temporarily sheltered at All Saints’ Church, Tabuan Dayak.

“They are about 30 of them and majority are young children. We brought some food rations and water for all of them.

“We managed to get details from the owners and we will see what more we can do to help. We may not have much but, we will try to do as much as we can,” he said.

Meanwhile in SRI AMAN, a late night fire destroyed a single-storey house in Lorong 3C, Kampung Muhibbah last Saturday (May 7).

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said they received a distress call around 11.10pm and despatched firemen from Sri Aman station to the scene.

Upon arriving, the house was already up in flames and the team managed to douse the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby properties.

The flames were put under control at 11.30pm. There were no reports of casualties in the incident as the occupants were not at home.
