MARUDI: The finding of the Media Campaign Evaluation Study showed that the level of health-related knowledge among the society is increasing even though there is a big gap between practice and knowledge.

Marudi Divisional Health Officer, Dr Neilson Richard Seling said the big gap was due to the prevalence of diseases caused by smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and an increase in risky behaviours.

He added that it was timely for the Ministry of Health to organise ‘Nak Sihat’ Health Camp to create more integrated communication with the public.

“It is timely to organise this camp as people will get information and build healthy skills for a healthy lifestyle.

“This is also in line with the government’s policy which encourages the public sector to go to the ground to understand the problems of the people,” he said when officiating at the ‘Nak Sihat’ Health Camp at SK Sungai Jaong here yesterday.

Various exhibitions and activities related to physical and mental health were held such as free health screening which enableed the public to engage directly with the health officers.

Meanwhile, a total of 31 such camps have been and will be held across the state this year.

“Three will be held at several locations in the Miri Division,” he said.

Members of the public have the opportunity to have their health screened for free at the event.
