MUKAH: A total of 31 longhouses in Ulu Mukah received minor rural project (MRP) grants amounting to RM155,000 to assist them in organising activities for the benefits of the local folk.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo handed over the cheques to the tuai rumah (longhouse chiefs) at a district-level community policing programme at Rumah Ajah Kandau, Tanjung Pedada near here on Saturday.

It was attended by 58 longhouse village development and security committees’ (JKKK) chairmen, who are also tuai rumah, and 58 secretaries of the respective JKKK.

Yussibnosh, who was former Balingian assemblyman, officiated at the closing of the half-day programme, which featured talks from Mukah Parliament Youth Organisation, National Anti-Drug Agency (ADDK), police, health department and a Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) councillor.

At the event, Yussibnosh also handed over certificates to 16 newly appointed tuai rumah and two ketua kaum (community leader).

There are 58 longhouses in Ulu Mukah which are under the supervision of Penghulu Mawar Awang, who was also former MDDM deputy walikota.
