40 months’ jail for Indonesian man

MIRI: The Sessions Court here on Tuesday sentenced an Indonesian man to 40 months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to culpable homicide.

Kahar Sanuddin, 38, from Gangking, Bulukumba, Indonesia, was charged with causing the death of a fellow Indonesian man, Rusdi Maming in December last year.

He admitted to having committed the offence in front of a worker’s quarters No 6, Base Camp Ori Estate, Beluru in Marudi around 11pm on December 1, 2018.

The accused was unrepresented while deputy public prosecutor Aftal Mariz Mohamed prosecuted.

Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos ordered the sentence to commence from the date of his arrest on December 2, 2018.

Kahar was initially charged with murdering Rusdi Maming but the charge was later amended to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
