KUCHING: The Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has had a busy week dealing with problematic crocodiles and macaques in Kuching division.

In one of four concurrent operations, SFC removed a large female crocodile measuring 5 metres in length from Sungai Serait, Bako last Friday morning.

The waters off Bako National Park are one of 19 Crocodile Removal Zones (CRZ) that have been declared in the state.

“With this successful catch, the operation at the said location would be called off,” said SFC in a statement here.

The corporation also said that SWAT teams had also been dispatched to two other locations in Santubong and Bau where human-crocodile conflicts have been reported.

“Another team also installed baited cage traps at Samajaya Nature Reserve to snare macaques that have become a nuisance to nearby residents. This operation would continue into the coming week.”

Members of the public are reminded to notify the nearest Forest Department or SFC offices of crocodile sightings in their areas and not take matters into their own hands as these reptiles are vicious and dangerous.
