BINTULU: Some 500 students from seven vocational and technical colleges in the state competed in the four-day sports carnival jointly organised by Ministry of Education and Vocational College (KV) Bintulu.
The Sarawak Zone Voktek Carnival 2017 was held at Dewan Sri Kenyalang, UPM Campus Bintulu here. Its closing ceremony yesterday was graced by Samalaju Assemblyman, Majang Renggi.
In his speech Majang said sports acts was one of the activities for a healthy competition, goodwill, tolerance, understanding and platform for good moral and psychical development.
He added that the carnival, which drew participation from both seniors and juniors, was aimed at promoting friendly competition among the
seven vocational-technical colleges and cultivating the values of fair play and good sportsmanship.
Majang was pleased with the spirit and commitment shown by the athletes and officials.
He also revealed that the sports carnival was the ideal platform for the government to inculcate unity and tolerance among the multi-religious and multi-cultural community as a whole, through youth- oriented programmes and sports they can excel themselves in healthy activities.
Director of KV Bintulu Jamali Mohamad was the organising chairman.
Jamali said: “For the seniors, the carnival was a welcome respite from the long hours of studying and preparing for the technical examination. For the juniors, it was an opportunity to re-live the memories of the games sessions during their Orientation programme held earlier this year.”
Among those present were Dr.John Keen Chubo, the Deputy Dean (Academic) UPM Bintulu campus; Fred Entau, Bintulu District Education officer; Ng Fook Ying, Director chairman and Director of Technical Secondary Schools Sarawak Zone; Hazami Hj.Umar, Exco PTA, KV Bintulu and the directors of the various vocational and technical colleges in Sarawak.
