507 new cases; Kuching records highest

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 507 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (June 22), raising the state’s tally to 60,989.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 313 of these cases, or 61.73 per cent, were detected in five districts, namely Kuching, Sibu, Kapit, Sebauh, and Song.

They said Kuching District recorded 91 cases, Sibu (85), Kapit (65), Sebauh (42), Song (30), Subis (27), Bintulu (26), Mukah (15), Miri (15), Sri Aman (14), Samarahan (14), Telang Usan (13), Simunjan (12), Kanowit (11), Saratok (6), Tatau (6), Tanjung Manis (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Bau (5), Pakan (5), Lundu (3), Pusa (2), Sarikei (2), Betong (2), Matu (1), Serian (1), Meradong (1), Dalat (1), Selangau (1), and Lubok Antu (1).

“Of the 507 new cases reported, 51 people exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection when screening was carried out,” SDMC said today.

437 cases were individuals who had been issued quarantine orders.

On the breakdown of the 507 new cases, 353 were individuals who have contact with positive cases, 84 were linked to existing active clusters, 49 were from other screenings at health facilities, and 21 were from symptomatic individual screenings at health facilities.

“Today (Tuesday), 583 new cases have recovered and been discharged.”

111 of these cases were discharged from Bintulu Hospital and the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under it, Sarawak General Hospital and its PKRC (108), Sarikei Hospital its PKRC (98), Miri Hospital and its PKRC (76), Kapit Hospital and its PKRC (72), Sri Aman Hospital and Sri Aman PKRC (48), Mukah PKRC (32), Sibu Hospital and its PKRC (29), Serian PKRC (7), and Betong PKRC (2).

“This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases so far to 50,145, or 82.22 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.”

There are still 10,318 active cases being isolated and treated at hospital wards and PKRCs throughout the state.

“507 new persons-under-investigation (PUIs) have been reported and one PUI is awaiting laboratory test results.”
