SIBU: A total of 6,197 recipients from Sibu Division received cash assistance in conjunction with the Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations at a local hotel here yesterday. Minister for Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah was present for the presentation ceremony.

Fatimah said in her speech that the recipients comprised 5,249 for the celebration Gawai Dayak and 948 for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. She said the main objective of the financial assistance was to ease the recipients’ burden as well as to offer them some cheers in conjunction with the festive seasons.

“In addition, it aims to help improve the quality of life among the less fortunate people. “This effort clearly demonstrates that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is very concerned about the problems of the people,” she said, adding that the government has implemented various types of assistance for the needy.

“No other government other than the BN government ia really concerned about the people, so I hope the people will continue to give mandate to the BN government in the this general election,” said Fatimah.
