707 new cases, one death

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 707 new Covid-19 positive cases and one death today (June 8), bringing the tally to 52,581 cases and 327 deaths.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 477 or 67.47 percent of the new cases were detected in Kuching, Bintulu, Sri Aman, Miri, and Song districts.

Kuching district led the tally with 247 cases followed by Bintulu (88 cases); Sri Aman (53); Miri (46); Song (43); Subis (40); Kapit (32); Mukah (25); Samarahan (24); Sibu (21); Beluru (17); Bau (12); Marudi (10); Asajaya (nine); Selangau (eight); Tatau (six); Tanjung Manis (five); Betong (four); three cases each recorded in Belaga and Kabong while Sarikei, Lubok Antu, and Serian recorded two cases respectively; and Bukit Mabong, Kanowit, Pusa, Tebedu, and Telang Usan recorded one case each.

Of the 707 new cases reported, 39 people exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screenings and 582 of the cases were individuals who had been issued quarantine orders.

In short, 437 new cases were screened after having contact with positive cases, 143 were individuals linked to active clusters, 104 from other screenings in health facilities, 21 cases were screening of symptomatic individuals in health facilities, one case was an import A case involving an individual returning from Holland, and another one has been classified as an import B case involving an individual returning from other states.

Meanwhile, it reported that 541 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide today.

Of these, 108 were from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under it; Miri Hospital and PKRC under it (101); Bintulu Hospital and PKRC under it (91); Sibu Hospital and PKRC under it (70); Sarikei Hospital and PKRC under it (62); Kapit Hospital and PKRC under it (40); PKRC Betong (23); Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC under it (20); PKRC Mukah (19); PKRC Serian (three); PKRC Lawas (three); and Limbang Hospital (one).

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 42,898, or 81.58 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

There are still 9,240 active cases being isolated and treated at hospital wards and PKRCs throughout the state.

In addition to that, 707 persons-under-investigation (PUIs) have been reported with none waiting for laboratory test results.

On another note, one death was reported today involving an 83-year-old local man from Lubok Antu who was admitted to Sri Aman Hospital.

He tested positive on May 26 and had heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia.
