859 samples collected from hawkers

Hawkers in Sibu Central Market undergoing swab test.

SIBU: A total of 859 samples were collected from hawkers for Covid-19 screening test at Sibu Central Market.

State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing said the swab tests from Feb 22 to Feb 23 were held at Sibu Central Market.

“One positive Covid-19 case was detected while 263 of them came back negative and the rest are still pending,” he said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, on active case detection (ACD) involving Sentosa Zone, he revealed that the total number of samples for Sentosa Zone collected was 1,255 of which two came back positive, four are still uncertain and the rest are still pending.

Sibu Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew revealed that a total of 47 longhouses in the Bawang Assan constituency were still subjected to movement restrictions or were currently under lockdown.

“Previously, a total of 80 longhouses in the Bawang Assan area were locked,” said Lau who is also the SUPP chairman of the Bawang Assan branch.

He said, Rumah Saing Beliang in Tanjung Bekakap recorded a total of 36 positive cases of Covid-19 among its residents so far.

“The number is still high and I urge all residents of the longhouse to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) strictly even in the longhouse, especially along the ‘ruai’ (open gallery) section.

“We found the virus spread very quickly in longhouses. Do not let outsiders visit your longhouse and continue to adhere to SOPs,” he said.
