SIBU: Two men were detained following the seizure of some 100,000 litres of diesel worth RM919,000 by marine police at Batang Igan on Wednesday.

According to Sarawak Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Shamsol Kassim, the discovery was made following a routine check on a vessel named Bintang Jaya 1 at a river channel of Sungai Antu at 11.25am.

“We found on initial investigation an estimated 100,000 litres of diesel inside the vessel tank.

“Two men on board the vessel failed to produce valid documentations or permit from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) when inspected,” he said.

The men and seized fuel were handed over to Sibu KPDNHEP for further investigation under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
