SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting has advised people to be cautious as the Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet.

“This is on the national news today, a warning for all to take precautions. Wear your face mask when you are in public areas. Social-distance yourselves and do not go to crowded places.

“I have people asked me what they should do when they come across establishments that are not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs). My advice is to stay away if you don’t want to endanger yourself,” he said.

According to Ting, on Saturday (July 18), Sibu police are out in force checking shops’ SOPs. With the new infections in Kuching, this checking and enforcement will only increase.

He added that the council and police are looking after the interests of the public.

“Kuching Stutong wet market detected two cases of Covid-19. The wet market is now closed,” he said, adding that SMC is conducting Covid-19 testing on hawkers of the central market here, and that as of Saturday (July 18), 95 have been tested and all results came back negative.

“I urge you to take precautions and adhere to the SOPs, wear face mask, practise social distancing and sanitised your hands. Don’t let your guard down.

“Stay safe, stay healthy,” he said.
