KUCHING: Sarawak police have issued a total of 1,360 compounds from March 18 to date for violating the movement control order (MCO).
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail shared that Kuching recorded the most compound issued with 361, followed by Sibu with 152 compounds.
“The third most compound issued is Miri with 149 compounds, Samarahan (104); Sarikei (86); Padawan (74); Bau (60); Bintulu (56); Betong (50); Simunjan (42); Saratok (34); Serian (31); Limbang (26); Lawas (25); Mukah (20); Kapit (17); Dalat (16); Lundu, Meradong and Julau (eight); Matu Daro (six); Lubok Antu, Marudi and Song (five); Kanowit and Belaga (four); and two each in Sri Aman and Tatau,” he said in a statement.
He pointed out that most offenses committed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No 7) Regulations 2020 are carrying out prohibited activities (Regulation 3), failure to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and not practising social distancing (Regulation 10).
Aidi said that the compounds have to be paid within a 14-day period from the date it was issued, at the division health offices.
If not paid within that period, the Health Ministry (MOH) will take action against the offender in court.
The penalty for defying the MCO is under Regulation 11 which carries a fine of RM1,000.
Punishment for offenders who failed to settle the compound within the stipulated time will be brought before the court for trial and imprisonment to offenders.
