Food supply airlifted to Mulu

MIRI: Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) today arranged for an AgustaWestland (AW189) helicopter to have food supplies and basic necessities delivered to flood victims in Mulu.

The aircraft and its crew departed from its air base here at 9am today and landed in Marudi at 9.15am before proceeding to Mulu at 12.47pm to complete the assignment.

The aircrew arrived in Mulu at 1.20pm.

The helicopter was manned by Captain PgKB II Wahyudi Mohd Sayuthi who was assisted by co-pilot PKPgB Safri Rambli and air quartermaster Aizat Asrani Abu Hasan.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also minister-in-charge of the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), said a total 195 food packs, provided by the Miri Welfare Department, were ferried to two villages (Kampung Batu Bungan and Kampung Melinau), a primary school (Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan), Mulu Sub-district office and Mulu Health clinic.

Meanwhile, Miri Bomba zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said due to a technical problem on the aircraft, only 127 packs (1,600kg) of food were delivered, while the remaining (68 packs) will be ferried later.
