KUCHING: The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Medac), through its agencies Bank Rakyat and The Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM), has handed over almost RM700,000 worth aid of to needy groups in Sarawak.
In a statement today, its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said in trying times like this, all forms of assistance from all parties are much welcomed to help lighten the burden faced by those who are in need.
“I would like to applaud both Bank Rakyat and SKM for participating in this charity drive. Acts of kindness from corporate entities and organisations, regardless of the form or value, would certainly help make a difference to those in need,” he said.
In this joint charity drive, SKM has set aside RM402,500 worth of assistance, both in cash and food items to flood victims and local cooperatives who were affected by floods that hit the state recently.
Meanwhile, Bank Rakyat donated RM112,000 worth of back-to-school items to 700 underprivileged students in Sarawak, which is part of its nationwide ‘Back to School’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) drive.
“The bank and its subsidiary Zakat Rakyat Holdings also handed over RM21,500 and RM154,350 worth of zakat, respectively, to more than 1,000 asnaf (tithe recipients) families in the Santubong parliamentary area,” according to the statement. – Bernama
