KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 deaths – both in Sibu involving high-risk age group today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement said the new death cases had pushed the total death in Sarawak due to Covid-19 to 78.

“The 77th fatality is Case 7,675 involving a 74-year-old Sarawakian woman who received treatment in Sibu Hospital for symptoms of fever, cough and pneumonia. The case was tested positive on Feb 19 after she underwent rt-PCR screen test the previous day.

“However, her health condition deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Feb 24. The case also had comorbid high blood pressure and diabetes,” it said.

Meanwhile, the 78th death was Case 4,334, involving a 90-year-old Sarawakian man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital after being detected positive Covid-19 through active case detection rT-PCR screen test.

“The health condition of the case deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Feb 25. The case also had comorbid high blood pressure, gout, acute hepatitis, and a history of stroke.”

Currently, eight Covid-19 patients are placed in the intensive care unit (ICU) while 13 others require ventilator support due to breathing problem.
