KUCHING: A non-governmental organisation (NGO) Hope Place has provided food aid to a grandmother and her three grandchildren at Astana Lot, Petrajaya here recently.
Timah @ Madiah Kadir, 61, is taking care of her three grandchildren as their parents passed away not long ago.
Timah has not been earning an income for several years ever since experiencing problems with her leg a number of years ago.
Therefore, she only depends on the charity of her sister and her other two adult children. However, she now has the responsibility to take care of her orphaned grandchildren aged between 11 and 15.
Timah’s daughter, Dayang Hasni, was actually under the care of Hope Place last year after her husband died of meningeal tuberculosis in September.
Dayang herself had also contracted meningeal tuberculosis and her health kept deteriorating until she passed away earlier in January this year.
Timah expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided by Hope Place, especially during this Ramadan month.
She said their situation was more difficult now as the children needed to study online and she needed to make sure that they had sufficient Internet data, which meant additional expenses.
Despite all her struggles, she still has the spirit of thanksgiving, especially for her family. With Aidilfitri approaching, she is determined to have a celebration with her loved ones and with a heart of thankfulness.
