SIBU: The public here have been urged to cooperate with authorities in Covid-19 active case detection (ACD) programme.

“To the people of Sibu, let’s not be afraid. The more people who come forward to undergo tests, the better our chances of dealing with the spread,” said Michael Tiang, a political secretary to the Chief Minister, here on Monday (May 3).

Earlier, he witnessed the ACD programme for the Ulu Sungai Merah Zone and Jalan Indah.

It is the last ACD by the Ministry of Health (MOH) here after it began last Thursday (April 29) with the Tong Sang Zone.

This was followed by Bahagia Jaya Zone on April 30, Permai/Jeriah Zone (May 1) and Rejang Park Zone (May 2).

“Obviously, we want more economic sectors to stay open and we want security and confidence.

“With ACD, the MOH will know how many who are positive and how many who are not. This is important while we wait for the vaccination process,” the SUPP Youth Chief explained.

Meanwhile, he said ACD held in seven zones in Sibu since April 29 were high-risk areas.

He hoped that after this, no more areas would be identified as being at risk.

Tiang praised the MOH for working hard to carry out ACD in several locations, adding that over 500 people turned up for Monday’s ACD.

“However, I don’t have the actual figures but based on my observation, response today is very encouraging.”

He also handed out face masks to those who turned up.
