State records five new deaths

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded five new Covid-19 fatalities on Thursday (May 6), bringing the state’s death toll to 195.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 191th death was Case 31,927 involving a local 44-year-old man who was rushed to the health clinic in Bintangor when he was found to be unconscious at home.

The case passed away on May 2 at the clinic. The result of an Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Antigen) and rapid molecular swab test carried out on May 2 was found to be positive for Covid-19.

The 192nd death involved a local 79-year-old man who had undergone emergency treatment at Sibu Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties.

“Further investigation revealed that the case had experienced cough and lack of appetite a few days earlier. The result of RTK-Antigen and rT-PCR swab test on April 29 on the case was found to be positive for Covid-19.

“The case’s health condition deteriorated and he passed away on May 5. Case had comorbidities of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and dislipidemia,” it said.

The 193rd death involved a local 75-year-old man who sought emergency treatment at Sarikei Hospital upon having breathing difficulties.

The result of rapid molecular swab test on May 3 on the case was found to be positive for Covid-19. He died on May 5.

Meanwhile, on the 194th fatality was a local 71-year-old man who was rushed for emergency treatment at Bintulu Hospital upon having breathing difficulties and found to be less responsive by his family members on May 5. The result of his rT-PCR test was found to be positive for Covid-19.

On the 195th death, the committee said that it involved a local 79-year-old woman who was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital after her rT-PCR test returned positive for Covid-19 on April 24. She was a close contact to a positive Covid-19 patient within her family members.

The case’s health condition deteriorated and she passed away on May 5.
